Pascal Gaudio, Canada. Revenue and distribution manager

Pascal moved here from Canada in 2004 for love and has been living in Finland ever since. He studied hotel, restaurant and tourism management, and after graduating has forged a career in revenue management, working for some of the biggest hotels in the country. As Finland has a similar climate as his country of birth, it’s not surprising that the piece of advice Pascal would give to someone contemplating coming to work in Finland is “buy a good winter jacket”.

What I find surprising about working in Finland is…

commitment to excellence and wellbeing. It is great to be part of a team that is always open for improvement by experimenting with new ideas, as long as the innovations make sense and have a logical process behind them. Since my arrival in Finland, I have been very fortunate to work with exceptional people dedicated to their work and inspiring me to always do better and push further while having fun doing it.

My favourite thing about Finland is…

Christmas ham. The taste is stupendous and the slow traditional way to cook it embodies the Finnish Christmas for me.

“I have been very fortunate to work with exceptional people dedicated to their work.”

How I got my current job is…

by networking. I always been active in taking part in events, meetings and seminars that enhance my knowledge of my profession. Doing so you get to meet extraordinary people that have similar views about work excellence.

The Finnish word that best describes working here is…

ällistyttävää’ It means ‘outstanding’ – from the people to the achievement we are constantly making. I love the word!

The best way to enjoy the weekend after a working week is…

spending time with family and friends, grilling, walking in the forest and doing all kind of nature activities.
