Three new Finnish fish processing plants have received approval from Chinese authorities to begin exports to the Chinese market.

The new exports permits were granted to the fish processing plants of Kuusisen Kala, Heimon Kala and Chipsters Food, raising the total number of Finnish fish industry operators approved in China to four.

The first export permit was secured by Kalaneuvos based in Sastamala in January 2019, following a visit to Beijing by Finnish permanent secretary Jaana Husu-Kallio.

“This is happy news and an expected addition to our export expansions,” commented Husu-Kallio. “Things are now moving along fast after the first approval.”

Finnish dairy company Valio has also made significant inroads in the Chinese market following the visit in January, a result of long-term preparatory work by Finnish authorities and inspections of facilities in Finland by Chinese authorities.

“The secured permits are a good example of how years of persistent work for exports produces results for Finnish foodstuffs,” said Jenni Kiilholma from the Finnish Food Authority.
