Finnish films to capture audiences in Moscow
Aleksi Salmenperä’s Void (Tyhjiö) and Selma Vilhunen’s Stupid Young Heart (Hölmö nuori sydän) will be screened at the Moscow International Film Festival taking place between 18 and 25 April.
The domestically applauded Void will compete in the main competition along with twelve other films. Finnish actress Maria Järvenhelmi has been chosen as one of the judges, who are to be chaired by the renowned Korean director Kim Ki-duk.
Void
is a comedy drama about a couple trying to balance their deteriorating relationship and their respective careers. Eero (Tommi Korpela) is getting desperate as his writer’s block is heading into its fifth year and actress Pihla (Laura Birn) is on the verge of an international breakthrough.
Stupid Young Heart
, directed by Vilhunen and written by Kirsikka Saari, will be screened in the Time of Women series that gives the floor to female film-makers. The film is a topical glimpse into the lives of a teen couple living in East Helsinki.
The drama made its international debut at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2018 and was awarded the Crystal Bear for Best Film at Berlinale earlier this year.
