Favourable wind energy conditions draw German companies to Finland
German asset manager Luxcara has taken the helm of the Northern Ostrobothnian wind power project Välikangas, after purchasing the project from fellow German renewable energy company ABO Wind.
The Välikangas wind power project is currently being developed in Northern Ostrobothnia by ABO Wind and is scheduled to get on the grid in 2020. The projected energy output is 100 megawatts, enough to satisfy the renewable electricity needs of 90 000 homes. ABO Wind will remain in charge of the project’s development until completion.
“We’ve already built two wind projects in the area and have a good relationship with the community there,” said Alexander Koffka, head of public relations at ABO Wind. “We’re also looking for new sites in the wider region.”
ABO Wind has constructed a total of 500 megawatts of wind power in Finland and has another 500 megawatts in planning or under construction. Northern Ostrobothnia is credited for its favourable wind energy conditions by both parties.
“We continue to be convinced by wind power in the Nordics and are happy to realise this Finnish wind project on the basis of already established business partnerships thanks to our existing wind projects in other countries,” commented Alexandra von Bernstorff, managing partner of Luxcara, in a release.
