Nokia strengthens its global network

First up, Nokia and Australian telecommunications company Optus have inked a five-year managed services agreement, which will see Nokia manage and maintain key components of Optus’s network infrastructure, operations and field maintenance.

Nokia and Optus will also develop a Network Operations Centre (NOC), to bring in local talent who can deliver higher performance networks in Australia.

Over in Japan, Nokia is to supply NTT DOCOMO with 5G technology. This will help the country’s largest mobile operator achieve its goal of having a 5G mobile service operational in Japan by 2020.

The two telecommunications giants have collaborated for a number of years. This latest agreement means Nokia will further enhance NTT DOCOMO’s existing baseband units and improve its network with Nokia’s 5G hardware.

To round off a good week, Nokia also announced it will help Nepal’s primary Internet service provider WorldLink build the largest fiber-to-the-home network in Nepal.

The network will connect one million households in Nepal by 2019, and meets the bandwidth-hungry requirements of the highest quality services, including HD video, 4K video services and Internet TV.
