Google invests in Finnish wind energy
Technology company Google has signed long-term power purchase agreements to buy renewable energy from three new wind farms under development in Finland.
Being built by European renewable energy developers Neoen, CPC and WPD, the wind farms will provide power to Google’s data centre in the Finnish city of Hamina.
“The power purchase agreement signed with Google is a delightful sign of confidence, not only in CPC’s quality and workmanship, but also in the entire Finnish market of renewable energy,” says Erik Trast, managing director of CPC Finland. “By committing to renewable energy and sustainability, a giant company such as Google is a remarkable and powerful trendsetter to other industries as well.”
Google is the world’s largest corporate buyer of renewable energy and with these agreements Google’s power purchase agreements (PPAs) in Europe increase to 14, totalling close to 900MW in wind and solar energy.
