Good news continues for Finnish film abroad
Selma Vilhunen’s latest is headed to Toronto, and Klaus Härö’s One Last Deal has been picked up by Scandinavian distributor LevelK.
The world premiere of Oscar-nominated director Vilhunen’s Stupid Young Heart (Hölmö nuori sydän) is to take place at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).
The drama tells the story of an expectant teenage couple (Jere Ristseppä and Rosa Honkonen). With his life turned upside down, the father-to-be searches for guidance and becomes involved with local right-wing activists along the way.
“Toronto is one of the world’s most important film festivals,” says Vilhunen, in a release.“It’s a great event and an honour to take part in. I’m really glad that the work of the entire crew has already been acknowledged, and that we get a front-row seat to show the film to an international audience.”
Actors Honkonen and Ristseppä will also be in attendance at the screening.
“We’ll watch the movie together with the audience and see how it works across cultural and language boundaries,” Vilhunen adds.
The director’s previous feature film, Little Wing, also screened at TIFF.
Also premiering at the festival is Klaus Härö’s One Last Deal (Tuntematon mestari). Variety reports that Scandinavian sales outfit LevelK has now picked up the film. The film is the director’s follow-up to the acclaimed The Fencer, which was nominated for a Golden Globe and shortlisted for an Oscar.
