Finnish superhero tearing up big screens globally
Rendel, the first superhero flick ever to be made in Finland, has continued its successful run overseas.
The dark-toned film has recently been released in the United States by Shout! Factory, hit the silver screen in Japan and been added to the official programme of the 36th Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFFF).
BIFFF is one of the largest genre-specific film festivals in the entire world with almost 60 000 annual attendees.
“It will be an honour to present the film in Brussels, as the level of competition will be high as hell also this year,” comments Jesse Haaja, the director of Rendel, in a press release.
“Another piece of great news was receiving theatrical distribution in Japan. We are getting feedback on the film through social media on a daily basis, and it seems that Rendel has found its audience,” he rejoices.
Rendel
has thus far been released in almost 40 countries around the world, with additional silver-screen premieres scheduled for April in France and Canada.
Haaja spoke to us last year about the challenges of making one’s directorial debut in such majestic fashion, describing the endeavour as an easy and fast – but not necessarily affordable – way to lose weight.
