Finnish horror-comedy picked for US festivals
Ilja Rautsi’s debut short film, Helsinki Mansplaining Massacre, will be on show at the New York Film Festival and at Austin’s Fantastic Fest at the end of September.
Helsinki Mansplaining Massacre
is a horror-comedy about one woman’s desperate struggle to survive a pack of men who just want to explain everything to her.
The film has already found success in Asia, where it was awarded the main prize in the Short Films category following its international premiere at the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival in South Korea.
A busy festival season lies ahead for the film, with screenings this autumn at almost 30 international film festivals and numerous festivals in Finland, including Helsinki International Film Festival – Love & Anarchy, where it will compete for the main prize in the short films series.
The cast features Anna Paavilainen and Leo Honkonen in the lead roles, as well as Finnish acting icon Vesa-Matti Loiri, Kari Hietalahti and Pekka Strang as ‘annoying mansplainers’. The film is produced by Mark Lwoff and Misha Jaari of Finnish production company Bufo, in co-operation with Aalto University’s Department of Film, Television and Scenography.
