Finnish film on show at Karlovy Vary festival

’s black-and-white comedy Take Care of Your Scarf, Tatiana (Pidä huivista kiinni, Tatjana) is included in the festival’s Seven Close Encounters section. It was picked out by graphic designer Aleš Najbrt, who is responsible for the visual style of the festival.

Finnish experimental film-maker Sami van Ingen’s short film Flame (Polte) will be shown as part of the Imagina section, which features films with an unconventional approach to style and narration. Flame is based on damaged frames from Teuvo Tulio’s 1937 feature film Silja – Fallen Asleep When Young (Nuorena Nukkunut), thought to have been lost forever in a 1959 studio fire.

Finnish producer Iikka Vehkalahti’s credits will also roll down the big screen, when the film Chris the Swiss is showcased in the Another View section of the festival. The animated documentary film is a Swiss-Croatian-German-Finnish production that explores the story of a Swiss journalist and a cousin of the film’s director Anja Kofmel who died under mysterious circumstances in the Yugoslav Wars.
