Finnish heavyweights Neste, Outotec, Kesko, Nokia and Wärtsilä have fared well in the Global 100 list of the world’s most sustainable companies.

The Global 100 looks at companies with a most recent gross revenue exceeding one billion US dollars. This year, Finnish energy industry giant Neste made a real dash to the top, placing second on the list and first of all large energy companies in the world.

Neste was only preceded by French software specialists Dassault Systemes. The Finnish energy company is continuously leaning more heavily towards high-quality renewable products, such as Neste MY renewable diesel. This gave it an edge on the novel Green Revenue indicator, which was introduced in this year’s index.

Outotec

also made huge strides on the list, coming in at fifth place, a sizeable leap of 85 spots from last year’s ranking. As the highest performer in its respective industry of construction and engineering, Outotec’s technology solutions have fared well with the new clean energy revenue metric.

Finnish Kesko prevailed in the trading sector at 31st place, and is the only Finnish company to have featured on the list every year since its inception in 2005. Four places behind was telecommunications giant Nokia.

Wärtsilä

, included in the machinery category, rounded out the Finnish contingent in 88th place.

Once again, the Global 100 Index was produced by Toronto-based media and investment advisory company, Corporate Knights.
