Finland and Shanghai deepen co-operation
Finland is deepening its collaboration with Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park with a newly established Zhangjiang Overseas Talents Affairs Office and Zhangjiang Overseas Innovation Center in the Finnish city of Espoo.
High representatives from Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park, the Pudong New Area district of Shanghai, the City of Espoo, and Business Finland, all gathered at the Team Finland House in Helsinki to celebrate the opening of the new office and centre in Espoo.
Espoo is the sister city of Shanghai, and its Deputy Mayor Tuula Antola had a few words of welcome to the representatives from the Chinese financial hub: “I am very pleased to welcome the stronger presence of Zhiangjiang in Finland and Espoo. There are great opportunities for bridging the communities in our hi-tech but also creative industries and startup platforms.”
The Shanghai Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park has been an important connection for Finnish companies wanting to enter the Chinese market since 2005, when Business Finland established the FinChi Innovation Center there. Over the past 13 years, the centre has soft-landed more than 130 Finnish companies into China.
The City of Espoo is also fast developing into an ever more important Sino-Finnish business hub. Earlier this year, Espoo Marketing, the company behind the Espoo Innovation Garden, and Norwegian accelerator nHack initiated a collaboration to build a bridge between companies in Espoo, China and Asia.
